GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Stops By Folsom High-Tech Firm

FOLSOM, Calif. -- Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman spoke at a high-tech firm in Folsom Tuesday about her plan to create more jobs for Californians, and said she'd continue to invest in her campaign.

Whitman, who visited SynapSense during a Sacramento County campaign stop, said she'd help boost the economy with targeted tax cuts and more aggressive business recruitment.

The former eBay CEO has spent more than $99 million in her quest to become California's governor.

"We've designed this campaign to win," Whitman said.

Democrat Jerry Brown, who faced no serious challenger in the Democratic primary, has spent just $450,000 on his race to date, although the number climbs to $774,000 once donated services are included.

"I think you have to look at Jerry Brown, Inc. -- which is -- the unions that are funding his campaign," Whitman said. "I think what you have to say is he is being bought and paid for by the unions, which I think is not in the best interest of Californians."

Whitman said she is satisfied with where she is in political polls. The Republican candidate hasn't been able to open up a lead over Brown.

The candidate said she'll continue to focus on winning favor with Democratic and Independent voters.
