Smart Switch and Smart Plug will optimise consumption

SynapSense added energy metering tools to its data center optimization platform.

SynapSense launches Power Suite Branded as the SynapSense Power Suite, the tools include the P3 SmartPlug and SmartLink that optimize energy loads, reduce stranded power and identify in real-time available power and cooling capacity.

The SynapSense P3 Smartplug is a server/networking/storage replacement power cord with built-in wireless energy metering capabilities that automatically connects to the SynapSense wireless network. SmartLink devices connect to a data center’s smart PDUs (Power Distribution Units) and replace the IP backhaul, providing rack- and plug-level power information from most major PDU vendors. Both of these products offer SynapSense Environmental Monitoring, enabling low-cost data center visibility, optimization and resiliency.

“SynapSense has developed a data center optimization platform that focuses on energy management—the primary component of DCIM that results in exceptional value and return on investment for our customers,” said Peter Van Deventer, CEO of SynapSense. “Our new Power Suite technologies take our SynapSense optimization platform to the next level of productivity as we make it possible for the enterprise to move toward continuous optimization and automated control.”

The Power Suite 'harnesses power from the utility feed all the way to the individual server outlet. The collective capacity management tools identify available power and leverage environmental data derived from the tools to concurrently locate cooling capacity.'

The suite includes branch circuit monitoring that measures circuit-level power from the server; energy metering that provides real-time Power Utilization Effectiveness (PUE); and PowerImaging that measures available power with cooling capacity.

The company listed projects at three un-named customers saying it optimized a 100,000 square foot, Fortune 50 company data center in Silicon Valley that resulted in $766,000 per year in annual energy savings, a $530,000 Silicon Valley Power rebate and a three-month return on investment. Installed its Active Control platform and provided optimization services for a 79,000 square foot data center for a leading hosting provider, resulting in a 40 percent reduction of cooling energy spend, annual energy savings of $597,000 (3.5 million kilowatt hours), a rebate of $600,000 and a payback of under 18 months. The company also said it deployed  Active Control across the mission critical footprint of a Fortune 100 company to deliver annual energy savings in excess of $1.5 million (18 million kWh) and an expected 5-year savings of $7.5 million (90 million kWh).
