User Interface Designer

Job Title: User Interface Designer

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other projects/duties may be assigned.

• Create mockups of UI workflow and screens for review with stakeholders.
• Communicate with local and remote development teams to understand design constraints
• Generate final art for use in development.
• Conceptualize user interfaces and generate visual designs for research & development presentations.
• Collaborate on focus group and user testing.
• Evaluate 3rd party UI components and applications for integration with SynapSense product.
• Develop new and modify existing software code to implement usability improvements.
• Create and maintain corporate User Interface design standards 
• Optimize ease-of-use in SynapSense products to achieve an integrated and consistent look and feel.
• Conduct ongoing research of web-based / application user interface development best practices.
• Work independently to plan and execute tasks with minimal supervision. 
• Ability to travel on occasion as necessary to meet with clients for usability studies, product user testing, etc.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

While this position has no direct supervisory responsibility, this role collaborates with various internal teams as well as 3rd parties (contractors) as necessary and as such requires leadership skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Work evidences excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with the complete software development lifecycle; experience with agile methodologies a plus 
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and other Creative Suite programs.
• Extensive web design, desktop software UI design and graphic manipulation work experience.
• Understanding of Flash, ActionScript, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SVG 
• Experience collaborating with senior technical staff.
• Experience conducting usability tests a plus.
• Experience with OpenLaszlo and/or Java Swing a plus.
• Experience in mobile or tablet design a plus.
• Exercises sound judgment and utilizes initiative and creativity to identify solutions and solve problems
• Provides and accepts suggestions and feedback positively
• Works well independently, in groups and with remote employees and off-shore contractors.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

• Bachelors degree or formal training in Graphic Arts or related field.
• 3+ years of user interface design for enterprise-class web-based applications. Experience building rich internet applications a plus. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands needed are: sitting or standing for extended periods of time and dexterity of hands & fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
